Located at 459 High Street, this house was the boyhood home of James Lawrence. Born in 1781, the youngest of eleven children, Lawrence went on to a distinguished naval career, reaching the rank of Captain before his death in battle during the war of 1812. A "Don't Give Up The Ship" flag flies on Burlington's riverfront promenade in his honor.
Owned by the State of New Jersey, the Captain James Lawrence House is administered by the Burlington County Historical Society, along with the adjacent Cooper House and Bard-How House.
